Why not just use tweezers

Regular tweezers squeeze the tick's body — which makes it regurgitate its stomach contents straight into your pet's bloodstream. That is precisely the moment disease is transmitted: Lyme, babesiosis, ehrlichiosis.

A proper tick tool grips the parasite flush against the skin, without compressing it.

The correct technique

1. Slide the fork underneath the tick, as close to the skin as possible.
2. Rotate slowly — don't pull. The tick releases on its own after two or three turns.
3. Never yank. Pulling leaves the mouthparts embedded and causes an abscess.
4. Disinfect the site afterward.

What never to do

No alcohol, no petroleum jelly, no oil, no burning. Every one of these folk remedies makes the tick regurgitate and measurably raises the transmission risk.

Watch the site for two weeks. A spreading circular rash, fever or limping means call your vet.
